From Ideas
to Impact
Can high school students truly change their communities and impact the world?
🏆 See the Top 3 ↓On April 18, New York time, the 2026 Youth Leadership Summit USA successfully concluded in Queens, New York. As an annual flagship gathering for student organizations, this summit—prepared over 300 days—brought together high school student leaders, young entrepreneurs, and education leaders from across the nation.
In an era where high test scores are increasingly common, the summit directly addressed the core pain points of today's education landscape: youth leadership development, social innovation practice, and the impact of artificial intelligence on the educational system.

Educational Challenges in the AI Era: When High Scores Are No Longer Scarce
What Truly Constitutes Core Competency?
How artificial intelligence is reshaping education became a key focus of discussion at the summit.
Joel Butterly, Co-Founder of InGenius Prep, pointed out at the summit that AI technology is accelerating the digital transformation of high school campuses. However, its widespread application also brings new challenges.

We observe that students earn high grades more easily, but the depth of learning doesn't necessarily scale accordingly.
— Joel Butterly, Co-Founder of InGenius PrepHe emphasized that this “grade inflation” phenomenon may exert a long-term impact on future education evaluation systems. In other words, when standardized test scores and standard essays can be easily optimized by AI, what top university admissions officers and future society truly seek is authentic action that converts creative ideas into actionable, real-world project results.
From “Ideas” to “Impact” – YLS 2026
Bridging the “Last Mile” of Youth Leadership Development
In response to this defining question of our time, the young leaders at YLS delivered impressive answers. If previous summits served as a showcase for youth aspirations, YLS 2026 evolved into a true “project accelerator” bridging capital and real-world enterprise.
This year, YLS partnered with the Future Founders Fund (FFF). Backed by financial leaders like Morgan Stanley and Sterling Private Equity, all competing projects underwent rigorous, institutional-grade evaluation.
The top ten projects selected from the applicants underwent private equity-level logical deconstruction. Judges evaluated projects beyond mere concepts, closely scrutinizing business model feasibility and data backing.
For example, highest-scoring initiatives like Arlington Students About Prevention and STEAMLabs International impressed former admissions officers and industry experts with their operational maturity, proving that students are fully capable of turning complex public topics into actionable solutions.

Rejecting Superficiality
AI Integration and Grounded Social Responsibility
In the tech innovation track, students used AI as a tool to solve real-world problems. Top ten finalist Davis Meng presented Shotdoc, a sports data analytics system with strong practical application. By offering real-time feedback during shooting motions, it provides instant data to help athletes refine technique—demonstrating how AI and data technology are penetrating domains like education and sports.

In social impact, the role of youth is evolving significantly. Stephanie Zabriskie, Founder and Executive Director of HUMANCULTUR, noted that youth-led social initiatives not only provide essential support to communities, but also promote cultural heritage and preservation. As she highlighted, youth are transforming from passive “participants” in social service into active “changemakers.”
Isabella Liu, Founder of Dance to Empower and YLS 2026 Top 10 finalist, shared that connecting with leaders across diverse fields at the summit helped her discover collaborative opportunities while refining her organization's business and social impact trajectory.

This is more than a competition; it is a platform for students to showcase achievements, gain recognition, and learn to turn ideas into reality.
